webkinz

I just want to go on the record as encouraging all of you who are still living at home to be honest with your parents about your online activities. If they don't want you on this blog, then respect their decision. You can always ask to discuss it with your parents and show them what goes on here but if they say no, then no is the answer.
Webkinz is tons of fun, we all know that. But it is just a game. Homework, chores, sports, friends, activities - they should all come first. Webkinz will always be around, always on - play it during your spare time.
FWIW, Hayley doesn't play the game for tons of time either - no more than 30 minutes a day, if that. She can't even be online on her own computer - it has no internet access and it is even out in public in her playroom. To be online, she has to get one of the two laptops in the house and play with an adult within arms reach. Every site she goes to, we have to look at it and be with her. She has email but it comes to my account.
I only post and play as much as I do because I work online and sometimes I'm just killing time that I'm monitoring websites for work or processes videos, etc.
The quicker you learn the lesson that life is about balance, the better. As you get older, you'll learn to be successful you'll have to find a way to keep things in perspective. Too much of anything isn't healthy.

Michelle, I completely agree with you! Several people on this site have asked me in the past if my children come to this site, and the answer is no. My children are 9 and 10. They are very restricted as to where they can go on the internet and I do not allow them on interactive sites like this or like the webkinz clubhouse. Our computer is located in the living room and the kids know that they may only go to sites programmed into the favorites menu. My children know when I am online and if there is something they want I do the trading to get it for them. My husband and I agreed that there is no reason to expose our children to the risk of inapropriate comments or nonsence that may occur online. It is a wonderful blessing for parents to have safe sites like webkinz so that are children can play and have fun in a complete safe setting.

Jennifer, bingo. Hayley is here some and she'll do stuff with me but she doesn't hang out to trade unless she is with me and I prefer that she not hang out for long periods of time. She won't anyway, one trade is enough for her and then she wants out the door to go play with friends. We do use this as a tool to learn technical skills, type and to interact with people online but I don't want her here too much either.

Yeah, my daughter isn't allowed on blogs either, unless we are on it together. I have helped her trade a few times on a kids site for WK, but that is with my total assistance. Mainly she decorates rooms in WKW.
I think that it is wise to keep your kids in balance and under supervision.
