Halloween notes
Wednesday, October 29, 2008-Get your Halloween items from the Webkinz store because they are going SOON.

-We got a Webkinz bat finally and I named him Muertos, from Dia De Los Muertos which means Day of the Dead in Spanish. Webkinz wouldn't let me give him that long of a name so Muertos it was.
The Day of the Dead is a holiday in the Mexican culture celebrated on Nov. 1st or 2nd where gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and relatives who have died. Some other cultures celebrate a similar holiday as well and the Day of the Dead has its roots in Aztec culture.
Dia De Los Muertos isn't as sad as it sounds, it is rather upbeat. Good candy, good food and friendship – you are supposed to tell funny and warm stories about people you cared about that are passed. The people who have passed away are supposed to be able to hear your prayers and love better at this time.
You visit the grave, decorate it and eat. You can set up a small shrine/alter/space at home and add photos of those who have passed and you put their favorite foods and items up there. Most people also have Christian crosses and other items in their celebration.
I have to say, I'm really thinking this is a neat holiday. I have some wonderful people who I love who have passed away and I'd surely prefer to honor them with love and snacks than just only grieve their loss.
